Make Use of Ad Colors:
Google provides a wide range
of colors to display your ads. Make sure you come up with
creative styles that will catch the attention of your
visitors. Experience shows that having a different color
format than what the page uses increases the click through
rates.
Know the Competition:
Do a research on which
companies would pay the most to advertise against each
other. Examples of these companies include computer sales,
job sites, domain registrars, etc. If you have sites with this
type of contents, then you can make a lot from AdSense,
depending on your CTR.
Make the Ads Visible:
Place the ads in places where
it's most visible to your visitors. Best places are at the
middle and below the contents. However, make sure that the ads don't hide
your contents.
Have a Content Rich Website:
The chance of visitors clicking on ads will increase depending
on how many content pages you have on your site. The more, the
better. Having a 2 or 3 page website will not do you very good.

Popularity:
Does your site barely show up on search engines? Then you have
to do some work to optimize your site in order to increase your
site's rank on search engines. More visitors mean more ad
impressions and more impressions mean a higher chance of click through
